Rosenthal Fibers

Rosenthal Fibers are eosinophilic, corkscrew fibers found in pilocytic astrocytoma, the most common primary brain tumor in children.

They can be seen with the following conditions:

  • Regions of longstanding gliosis
  • Around cysts and vascular malformations 1
  • Tumours :  juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma (JPA)
  • Metabolic conditions :  Alexander disease
