Teeth Bleaching & Teeth Whitening Systems
This guide explains the stains produced on the teeth and process of tooth whitening by bleaching either at home or in a doctor’s office.
There are a lot of reasons for a person to have tooth stains. Most tooth stains occur due to the natural process of aging. In many instances, it is through the bad habit of not taking care of our teeth by brushing regularly or/and properly. Drinking tea and coffee too often also results in tooth stain. Each stain is different and has to be treated separately. So when whitening of tooth is desired, it is good to consult a doctor and choose the best solution for your case.
Home tooth bleaching system is the most common bleaching technique used to whiten tooth. This can be performed at home and hence it has been called that way. This system uses a tray that is filled with the bleaching solution. The tray is designed to fit your teeth and is usually light weighted. The tray is then supposed to be worn while you sleep or during the day for a period of a week or sometimes weeks.
The following steps can be followed for performing the tooth bleaching: Brush and floss teeth thoroughly prior to placing the tray in your mouth.
Then a small drop of bleaching gel (carbamide peroxide) is placed in the tray at each tooth site where whitening is desired.
Tray is fitted into the teeth until it sits completely.
Wear the tray for at least 12 hours. Prefer to wear while sleeping during the night time.
When trays are removed, the trays are rinsed with cool and try to keep it clean.
After the trays are removed, brush and rinse remaining gel from teeth.
Trays are not supposed to be worn during eating. So remove them while eating or wear them only after having completed supper
The home teeth whitening process may take considerable time and cannot be predicted precisely by any doctor. In some cases, it may take up to 6 months. But a little whitening of tooth can be seen in the first few weeks of the treatment.
Laser tooth whitening is performed by a dentist in a clinic. It requires the use of applying a gel, either hydrogen peroxide or chlorine and then beaming laser (light) over the teeth. This process lightens the dark molecules on the dentine.
The cost of the tooth bleaching may usually range between $300 and $500 for a special tray to be developed to fit your teeth. The price also includes the gel. The laser light procedure can be done in n hour or two and will set you back anything between $300 and $800. The cost of treatment will depend on variables such as the strength of gel, size of teeth of individuals, the shade of colour you desire. And it varies from person to person, depending on the tooth stains.
