sagittal plane

A vertical plane passing through the standing body from front to back. The mid-sagital, or median, plane splits the body into left and right halves.

Sagittal Plane: Divides into left and right pieces

  • Midsagittal: Divides into left and right along the midline, creating equal halves. This is the mirror image plane.
  • Parasagittal: Any sagittal plane parallel to the midsagittal and off the midline
